MULTI-GENERATIONAL LIVING: AGING IN PLACE HOME ACCESSIBILITY RENOVATION

BRIEF DESCRIPTION

This project was a whole house demolition and rebuild of the pre-existing 3500 sq. ft. home to create a new multi-generational living space. The first floor was remodeled and designed in anticipation of the homeowners’ elderly father moving in with the family. Specifically, a first-floor addition to the back of the house allowed expansion of the kitchen, living room and sunroom into one large open space which could easily accommodate home accessibility for a wheelchair down the road if needed. A master suite was added to the first floor next to the foyer for the elderly father.

The upstairs space consists of the homeowners’ master bedroom and two additional bedrooms for their children. This design, with the grandfather’s bedroom on the first floor, enables privacy and separation of living spaces for everyone. A second floor addition was also added to the right side of the house to accommodate another bedroom which could be re-purposed down the road as a guest room.
